This piece symbolizes a period in my life when I worked with autistic children. At the time, I never knew what child I would be working with when I accepted a job. I called this piece “Unknown Voices” because each experience was different. I didn’t always know the child’s nationality, background, or sometimes even where they fell on the autism spectrum until I met them.
The multicolored squares represent the different races, cultures, personalities, and individuals we encounter in our everyday lives. Each square is unique, yet they all come together to create one complete piece.
“Unknown Voices” is especially sentimental to me because it represents not only the uncertainty of those experiences, but also the beauty of meeting and connecting with individuals who were all different in their own ways.
